Employee Engagement Needs Commitment.
Employee Engagement
When it comes to employee engagement, it is not like a switch you can flick and all is well. Having all the bright and shiny posters on motivation, teamwork and communication around the office is not enough. You have to actually do what you are expecting your employees to do. Having a big poster about communication when you avoid talking to your staff sends a clear message to them; All we are interested in is window dressing, not the real thing.
There is a Difference Between Deciding and Doing
Actions speak louder than words, but so does no action. Once you make the decision to do something about creating that inspired workplace, then take action! Be hard on yourself and set targets for what you want to achieve. You are already doing it for your business, now do the same when it comes to employee engagement. You may be shocked to see what percentage of employees are disengaged at work and the reason can be attributed to a number of things, but the good news is that you can do something about it.
Lead By Example
Show your employees that you are committed to improving the workplace. They will be inspired by your actions and passion for the business, but, you have to show it. Be clear about your vision and strategies for the business and communicate! Instil that same passion in your workplace and be ready for the rewards that come from having employees that are actively engaged.
Understand and recognise the needs of employees. Use this as the starting point for the transformation process and make time for talking to your employees and also listening to them. Every person has a specific personality that shapes their behaviour, and learning how to analyse this, will enable you to maximise the value they have to offer.
Set specific goals for yourself and your team and celebrate your achievements with positive reinforcement. Start the process of setting your business up for success by developing your employees.
