Leadership and Workplace Motivation

In order to gain positive engagement from staff, set up your motivation strategies and implement them in a structured manner.

Recognise Achievements

Recognition of achievements boosts staff morale. It shows you take note of the work they do and appreciate the extra effort they put in.

Implement Development Strategies.

Nobody wants a dead-end career. Implement strategies for continued growth within their relevant areas of expertise. Discuss it with your employees and gain an understanding of what they hope to achieve. How would this add value to them and your business, what areas within your business need development. Now tie these two together and create the winning combination that is structured for success.

Communicate.

Share your vision and strategy with your team. Obtain their buy-in to make it achievable. Sometimes a simple “good morning how are you today” can open an avenue to new ideas. Make this a habit and let your employees know you value them.

Allow and Promote Growth.

Where employees show the ‘hunger’ for wanting to enhance their career, it needs to be supported. Assist them by adding responsibilities, offering additional training and support their achievements.

Leadership and Workplace Motivation

How do you Motivate?

Motivation comes from within. Every person will motivate him/her-self pending their needs, environment and the support of others. This needs to be understood and nurtured.

Engage employees

Engaging employees contribute to their sense of belonging. They feel part of the business and want the business to succeed. This drives them to contribute more.

Where achievable, add challenges to the job.

Find out what tasks they enjoy the most and which they hate doing. Try to add tasks to their routine that they enjoy because of the challenge it presents. This provides a good balance between tasks keeping them motivated.

Select team members with care.

Having the wrong ‘mix’ in your team could lead to disaster. Ensure you select the right members for specific tasks and check for any areas of conflict within the team. You need to address these immediately or face the entire team being ‘held back’.

Allow and promote innovation.

Not only should you allow innovation, you should actively promote it. Don’t fall into the old “this is how we have always done it” trap. Business is challenging and you need to find ways to stay ahead of your business rivals.
